CEV President delighted to visit Azerbaijan
News from the CEV
Baku, Azerbaijan, August 19, 2013. CEV President André Meyer and CEV Vice President Jan Hronek traveled to Azerbaijan’s capital city this past week and were absolutely delighted with the latest news they got from the local Volleyball family.
“We have come to Baku for two main reasons” said Meyer addressing the media. “We first wanted to finalize a partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth and with the Azerbaijan Olympic Committee for the establishment of a Volleyball Academy here in Baku that will be instrumental to the development of our sport in Azerbaijan and also in the neighboring countries. This idea was started some years ago but time has finally come to follow up on it and make things happen. We also came here to inspect the Crystal Hall, the arena that is set to host the Volleyball tournament of the inaugural European Games in 2015. This facility was not conceived for hosting Volleyball matches and so there’s plenty of work to be done here to make sure it turns into a perfect venue for our sport” the CEV President continued.
CEV Vice President Jan Hronek recalled that Azerbaijan women’s national team is about to compete at the 2013 EuroVolley in Germany and Switzerland wishing all the best to the group coached by Faig Garayev as they try to make it to the final weekend coming up in Berlin through September 13-14.
Mr. Meyer and Mr. Hronek also attended the finals of the Azerbaijan Beach Volleyball Championship (see picture) where Tural Hasanli/Javid Suleymanov and Nina Nechay/Beyaz Aliyeva won gold in the men’s and women’s division respectively.
