Yachts, body art and beauty contests raise the excitement in Varna
2013 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Varna, Bulgaria, August 18, 2013. A number of exciting side events accompanied the 2013 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship presented by Mtel on Yuzhen beach in Varna and raised the adrenalin for both players and spectators.
Several of the players took advantage of an invitation that came from the organizers of a traditional sailing race that has been taking place off the Varna shore this weekend. Girls from Austria, France, Bulgaria and Romania got on board the attractive yachts to enjoy a relaxing ride between their tough battles on the sand. Some of them even decided to cool off in the southern European summer heat by jumping off the boats and swimming ashore back to the beach stadium. Of course, all this was also a great opportunity for the photographers to take some attractive shots of the players’ athletic bodies.
Fans and players alike took the chance to see some attractive body art on their own bodies as two artists were available on the set of the European Championship to demonstrate their talent. While some opted to have their national flags boasted on their skins, others were happy to pose in front of the cameras with complete masterpieces beautifully underlining the attractive Beach Volleyball physique.
Of course, the most anticipated side event around the continental competition in Varna was the traditional annual Mtel Beach Masters party on Saturday night. Bulgarian pop stars Rafi and Kalin Velyov fired up the gathering with some high-energy beat on the beautiful setting of the Black sea beach in Varna. As throughout the duration of the championship there was a poll going on for Miss and Mister U22, the high point of the night was the announcement of the winners. The female players of the tournament had voted for Bulgarian Martin Ivanov as Mister U22 with his teammate Branimir Grozdanov and Norway’s Andreas Takvam in second and third place respectively. French player Manon Rebuffel was crowned Miss U22 by the votes of the male athletes. Germany’s Anna Behlen and Czech Republic’s Hana Tresnáková became first and second runner-up in this fun beauty contest.
