A good share of the world's elite to star at 2013 Women's EuroVolley
2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women

Frankfurt am Main, Germany, August 7, 2013. With one month to go before the start of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Women co-hosted by Germany and Switzerland, the head coaches of the 16 participating teams have dropped their rosters to 22 players. Out of these names, a maximum of 14 will be retained for the tournament with 12 to be nominated on each match day.
The final lists will be available shortly before the start of the Championship and in the next few weeks the head coaches of Europe’s elite teams will have the opportunity to determine which players will eventually join the real highlight of the season. A total of 9 European teams are currently participating in the FIVB World Grand Prix and this will be a unique opportunity to assess the state of the preparations while getting ready for the European Championship.
Some well-known Volleyball stars who have left their mark on the past editions will be missing the upcoming Championship, like for instance Russia’s Ekaterina Gamova – who retired from the national team after the London Olympics – or Italy’s Francesca Piccinini and Eleonora Lo Bianco. Germany’s Angelina Hübner-Grün has also decided to skip the home Championship and isn’t among the 22 players nominated by Italian-born head coach Giovanni Guidetti.

Still some of the best Volleyball players in the world will highlight the competition: to name only a few, Serbia’s Jovana Brakocevic, a gold medallist and MVP from the 2011 edition (see picture), Turkey’s Gözde Sonsirma Kirdar, Russia’s Nataliya Goncharova Obmochaeva, Azerbaijan’s Natalya Mammadova, Germany’s Margareta Anna Kozuch, Poland’s Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata and Italy’s Carolina Costagrande.
Volleyball fans can already look forward to a world-class competition under the motto “5 cities, 2 countries, 1 goal: women’s Volleyball at its best”.

The lists of 22 players so far nominated by the 16 participating teams are available on the official website www.eurovolley2013.org
