Volero signs former club world champion Mira Golubovic
News from the clubs
Zurich, Switzerland, August 5, 2013. As they already look forward to the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League and also to their debut at the FIVB Club World Championships coming up in early October, Volero ZÜRICH recently signed Serbian middle-blocker Mira Golubovic who will return to Switzerland’s largest city seven years after her last appearance for the likes of the country’s multiple national champions.
Golubovic played for Volero as the Swiss side debuted in Europe’s elite competition back in the 2006/2007 season and was one of those who carried the hopes of the home side as Zurich played host to the final four at Hallenstadion. Volero eventually lost a close semifinal game with Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW and their dream of home glory was shattered. After leaving Volero, Golubovic moved to Russia to play for Omichka OMSK REGION (2007-2009), before she signed for Metal GALATI in Romania (2009-2010). She spent the last three seasons in Azerbaijan playing there for Rabita BAKU.
While playing for Rabita, Golubovic finished twice (in 2011 and 2013) second in the CEV Volleyball Champions League and won the Club World Championships in 2011, adding to her resume a silver medal from the 2012 edition of that same competition.
“Mira Golubovic is a valuable addition to our group as she brings a lot of experience and will help us achieve the high goals we have set for the coming season. She will be a role model in the daily work for our young players who can profit of her ambitions to always come out on top” says Volero chairman Stav Jacobi. “The transfer of Mira also confirms the unique appeal of our club which is able to attract former world champions” he adds.
