Latvian duos claim gold and silver in third stop of EEVZA Tour
News from the Zonal Associations
Vilnius, Lithuania, July 23, 2013. The third stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour took place this past weekend in Lithuania’s capital city. The competition held at Credit24 Arena was a perfect rehearsal for the U20 European Championship that this venue will host through this coming August 8-11, 2013. A men-only tournament, the competition in Vilnius was joined by 26 teams representing the host country, Latvia, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine.
Even though the weather was not that good, this did not impact on the quality of the matches and on the determination showed by the players. Latvia’s Haralds Regza and Armands Abolins eventually claimed gold after they beat their compatriots Rihards Finsters and Aleksandrs Solovejs at the end of a very close final match (16-21, 21-15, and 15-10). The podium was completed by Belarus’ Aliaksandr Dziadkou and Yauhen Vishneuski – bronze medallists from last year’s U23 European Championship in Assen, NED – who got past home heroes Tomas Stasevicius and Mantvydas Suklys in straight sets (21-17, 21-15).
The EEVZA Tour will continue this coming weekend in Riga, Latvia, before the best pairs will travel to Klagenfurt for the CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Final.
