EEVZA Beach Volleyball tour stops in Vilnius
News from the Zonal Associations
Vilnius, Lithuania, July 19, 2013. The 2013 edition of the Beach Volleyball tour promoted by the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) is set to stop this weekend in Vilnius with 26 men’s pairs from Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine testing out their skills in the city that later this summer will also play host to the 2013 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship.
The competition area has been set up right in the heart of Lithuania’s capital city, just nearby the Neris River. The competition is sponsored by Credit24, a credit solutions company, and hosted by the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation. Elite Beach Volleyball is returning to Vilnius after Lithuania’s capital city played host to the U18 European Championship in 2011 and also to the first stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball tour in May where the tournament was open exclusively to female duos. The EEVZA tournament will be a very good test to finalize preparations for the upcoming U20 European Championship and an additional opportunity to draw the attention of media and fans alike to a sport whose popularity in Lithuania has literally boomed.
With the qualification scheduled for Friday and the Main Draw following on Saturday and Sunday, the organizers expect some 3,000 people will visit the Credit24 Arena – venue of the tournament – throughout the weekend. Semis and finals are slated for Sunday afternoon and shall attract a large crowd as medals will be at stake together with valuable FIVB Ranking Points.
