News from the clubs
Belchatow, Poland, July 15, 2013. A total of five young players included on the roster of PGE Skra BELCHATOW recently starred with Poland’s national team at the FIVB Boys’ U19 Volleyball World Championship in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico where they eventually got bronze. These players are Piotr Badura, Krzysztof Bienkowski, Jan Fornal, Lukasz Pietrzak, and Kacper Piechowski who this past season was transferred to AZS CZESTOCHOWA in order to get valuable playing time in Poland’s first division.
PGE Skra that after a disappointing domestic season is set to compete in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup had more to celebrate these past days as another of their players, Jedrzej Mackowiak, had flown to London for the weekend to team up with Polonia’s setter Bartosz Kisielewicz and finish third at a charity Beach Volleyball tournament held at Canary Wharf. The duo performed well there in London as they lost in the semis to Vatolik/Silva in a tournament where gold went to the home guys Smith/Sheaf, a GB pair that has set the ambitious goal to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. “I am very proud for I got the opportunity to promote PGE Skra and more in general also Polish Volleyball here in London” Mackowiak says. “The tournament was just great and it did show that our cooperation with Polonia can be extremely fruitful. We got a great support from the Polish fans that had come together on the stands. Polonia – England’s best Volleyball team – is really popular in London right now” he continues.
There is even more to come for Skra as another two players of Poland’s multiple champion have made their way to the final match of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan. Karol Klos and Wojciech Wlodarczyk will play there on Tuesday hosts Russia captained by Denis Biryukov.
