Annual CL seminar a major success
News from the CEV

Vienna, Austria, June 29, 2013. A very busy weekend came to a close on Saturday in Vienna to follow up on the European Volleyball Gala and DOL held on Friday evening at UNIQA Tower. On Saturday the representatives of the 52 teams that are set to participate in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League as well as a good number of CEV Supervisors got the chance to attend a seminar that featured the intervention of some experts and where CEV President André Meyer also enjoyed the opportunity to discuss the main features of the special “Fair Play – Volleyball Way” campaign that was officially unveiled on Friday evening.
The CEV President insisted on the innovative features of this campaign and did already share ideas and actions that are likely to spread its message around in combination with all matches to be played for the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League whose prelims are set to start in late October. The slogan/official logo of the campaign will be prominently featured around the court, on the players’ uniforms as well as on all print materials, while the clubs are expected to share its vision and general philosophy by supporting charities and other social actions.
ECC President Riet Ooms addressed the clubs by reviewing the outcome of a working group held this past February in Luxembourg City whose aim was to identify actions likely to help modernize and further develop the CEV Volleyball Champions League in the years to come. Though several ideas have been put on the table, Mrs. Ooms stressed that a couple of more meetings will follow by the end of the year in order to study and evaluate such proposals and jot down a sort of road-map so as to be able to introduce some relevant changes already for the start of the 2014/2015 season.

Next to this, two lecturers – namely Christian Doneis from the Police Department of the City of Vienna and James O’Brien, who was the Head of the Sports Presentation Department at the 2012 London Olympics – were there to brief the clubs about security issues and entertainment respectively, two areas the teams are supposed to work on in order to make a real show out of every single home match they will host in the CEV Volleyball Champions League.

The attendees also got the opportunity to review the latest changes in the regulations and the results of the e-learning course they had followed prior to their travel to Vienna. This year’s seminar turned into a very fruitful exchange of ideas for everyone involved and the clubs showed their full commitment and eagerness to work hard in order to deliver yet another memorable season of world-class Volleyball.
