Poland's libero looks forward to start of international season
News from the clubs
Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, June 25, 2013. The summer season got officially started some days ago but for some players included on the roster of Poland’s vice champions Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA it also means that another campaign with the national team is about to start. This is the case, for example, for libero Krystyna Strasz.
She did not have much time to relax after the end of the club season but she is ready to represent Poland internationally. “I got the chance to re-charge my batteries and I am happy because while on holidays everything went according to my plans. I have visited beautiful places and I feel very relaxed now” she says.
Poland’s head coach Piotr Makowski has put together a group including many young players and Strasz will be one of the most experienced on the roster. Another player of Tauron MKS, outside hitter Elzbieta Skowronska, is also part of the group. “I know Makowski since the time that he was assisting our former mentor Jerzy Matlak. One of the main goals for this season is to play good and afterwards the head coach will decide who will be retained for the European Championship in Germany and Switzerland” Strasz says. “I think that everyone will get a chance to show her skills and potential”.
Poland’s national team is set to join the Eltsin Cup taking place through June 26-30 in Ekaterinburg – other teams playing there are Russia, Italy, Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba – and after that the youngest players in the group will participate in the Summer Universiade in Kazan (July 6-17). Through August 2-18 Poland will then play the prelims of the FIVB World Grand Prix whose finals are scheduled for late August in Sapporo, Japan. The last stop of the season will be the final round of the European Championship scheduled for September 6-14 in Germany and Switzerland.
