Anna Podolec stays in Sopot with a different perspective
News from the clubs
Sopot, Poland, June 24, 2013. “I am very happy to have such great player staying with us for another year” comments Atom Trefl SOPOT head coach Teun Buijs upon being informed that Anna Podolec will stay with Poland’s national champions also for the 2013/2014 season.
“She’s a great player with excellent skills and she is set to be one of the leaders in our group” he continues. Podolec, 28, is a very experienced player who got back to Poland one year ago. She has got an impressive set of medals from European and World Championships in all age groups and in 2003 was part of the senior national team that claimed European gold in Turkey. She is a two-time Polish national champion and has one silver and one bronze medal too from the national league. On the international stage she is a winner of the CEV Volleyball Cup – in 2009 – by the time she played in Italy for Asystel NOVARA. “All these honors show that she’s an excellent player and bearing this in mind we have agreed that she will stay with us for yet another season” club President Roman Szczepan Kniter says.
Last season Podolec was a reserve player and even though she is known for being a universal, Buijs has no doubts about her perspectives in the team. “Though people have been discussing about this and saying that she can play in different positions, with her spike reach and physical skills Anna is meant to be an opposite player. I have heard some critics about her but I saw Anna in action while Atom Trefl played some test matches with my former team SCHWERINER SC last year and as opposite she was just great. That’s why I am happy that she is staying here and I promise that our fans will have the chance to see her play as good as she did some years ago with the national team” Buijs says.
