Russian girls keep immaculate record at U20 World Champs

Brno, Czech Republic, June 23, 2013. After three competition days at 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic, world No. 1 and 2 China and Brazil keep a clean sheet. Both teams continued their winning streak on Sunday with another straight-set win. The Dominican Republic, Chinese Taipei and Russia remain unbeaten as well.
In Pool A, the Dominican Republic beat Peru in a thrilling five-setter while Chinese Taipei proved too strong for Puerto Rico (3-1).
In an All-Asian duel, world No. 1 China stormed to an undisputed 3-0 triumph over Japan. In the second match of Pool B, Colombia outclassed Thailand 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 to clinch their first win at the Women’s U20 World Champs in Brno.
After their straight-set win versus USA, Brazil eased past Mexico in Sunday’s first Pool C match. Bulgaria reduced their errors in the third set to come back courageously against Russia in the second match. However, the tall Russian athletes proved their mental and physical power at the end of the fourth set to end the match 3-1 in their favor.
In Pool D, Algeria booked their first win at the FIVB Women’s U20 World Champs by overpowering Nigeria 3-2, before 2011 gold medalists Italy overcame Egypt in straight sets.
