CEV Executive Committee has plenty to be delighted with
News from the CEV

Istanbul, Turkey, June 14, 2013. The CEV Executive Committee chaired by CEV President André Meyer got together on Friday in Turkey’s megalopolis for their third meeting of the year only a few hours before they are joined by all other members of the CEV Board of Administration. The CEV authorities did receive a very warm welcome by the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Özkan Mutlugil, who expressed his delight for having the highest authorities of European Volleyball in Turkey through this weekend.
The CEV Executive Committee did review the positive outcome of the first round qualifiers for the 2014 FIVB World Championship held these past weeks stressing out their importance for they did see record-breaking figures in the number of participating teams and for the involvement of many small countries that for the first time enjoyed the opportunity to compete on the global stage. The Executive Committee insisted on the necessity to follow up on this premiere so as to make sure that these countries will be regularly participating also in all other competitions placed under the authority of the CEV. A total of 13 first-round qualification tournaments have been held so far with the last one to follow later this month in Malta for the women’s competition.
The CEV Executive Committee did also positively evaluate the reports provided by the four Zonal Associations (BVA, EEVZA, MEVZA and NEVZA) and by the Small Countries Division praising their work and efforts in the promotion and development of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball across the young generations.
The budget drafted for 2014 was also studied by the ExCom members who got the opportunity to go through the reports worked out by the internal and external auditors and to take note of the positive evaluation they have done when it comes to the status of the CEV financial assets.  
With only a couple of weeks left for another major highlight of the year – the European Volleyball Gala scheduled for June 28 in Vienna alongside the DOL for the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League – the Executive Committee reviewed plans and ideas for what shall turn into a memorable night for Europe’s Volleyball family.
Finally, the ExCom members devoted their attention also to the ongoing Beach Volleyball season which is likely to turn into the most successful ever for this year’s Continental Tour includes events taking place in 17 different countries. Lastly, the Executive Committee studied reports provided after the CEV Satellite held last week in Montpellier, France, where an innovative scoring system was tested for the first time with games played in a “best of five” format and each set up to 11 points.      
The weekend will continue on Saturday with the meeting of the Board of Administration where other items will be discussed and the Presidents of the various CEV Commissions will be reporting on their respective activities, plans and proposals to the Board.
