100 days left for EuroVolley start
2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship - Men
Copenhagen, Denmark, June 12, 2013. A hundred days are left for the start of the 2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship – Men, Final Round to be co-hosted by Denmark and Poland through September 20-29. In the meantime fans from as many as 31 countries have bought tickets to attend the final four weekend set to take place at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen (see picture).
A total of sixteen teams will embark on September 20 on their quest for European glory with the Championship stopping in six different venues (Odense, Herning, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Gdynia and Gdansk). 2011 European champions Serbia will try to retain their title with 2012 Olympic gold medalists Russia being – together with Italy and Poland – another top contender for the crown. “For us the countdown for the start of the Championship started a long time ago” the Managing Director of the local Organizing Committee Mads Bang Aaen says. “Since October 2010 when we got the right to stage the Championship together with Poland we have been working hard with our sole target being September 20, the very first competition day. Quite evidently the ticket sale is one of our highest priorities because we want to deliver a terrific show for players and fans alike. The interest around the Championship is huge and fans from 31 countries have already bought tickets for the semis and finals in Copenhagen” he continues.
The Danish Volleyball Federation has worked on a terrific program of side events – 40 in total – to support the promotion of the Championship sponsored by VELUX. The ultimate goal is to raise interest around Volleyball across the country so that once the Championship is over more people will take up the sport. “We just had a school tournament joined by a team representing each of the four hosting cities (Herning, Odense, Aarhus and Copenhagen). They had the opportunity to qualify for the final school tournament taking place in Copenhagen and to get tickets for the final weekend at Parken. We have also arranged a great amateur tournament in a public park just nearby the stadium hoping that people will be playing Volleyball in the morning before they visit the matches in the afternoon” Bang Aaen stresses.
