Salvetti and Daguerre cruise to Montpellier semis
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Montpellier
Montpellier, France, June 9, 2013. Home heroes Yannick Salvetti and Jean-Baptiste Daguerre (pictured) gave much to cheer about to their fans in Montpellier as on Saturday they cruised to the semis of the inaugural CEV Satellite tournament taking place there on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. They started out in the morning seeing off Denmark’s Anders and Soeren Hoyer 3-1 (11-6, 12-10, 5-11, and 16-14) before they returned in action later in the afternoon edging Spain’s Javier Monfort/Inoncencio Lario in straight sets (11-8, 15-13, and 11-6) to qualify for the semis and play there on Sunday morning Murat Giginoglu and Selcuk Sekerci of Turkey. On his birthday Daguerre will be playing what is most probably the real highlight of his career.
France’s other duo, Andy Cès/Edouard Rowlandson, re-started their campaign by causing the first sensation of the day as they beat Latvia’s Olympic bronze medalist Martins Plavins and his new partner Janis Peda (11-9, 5-11, 11-6, and 11-6). However, they could not complete their comeback via the losers’ bracket as they lost their next match to Robert Kufa and Jan Hadrava (CZE) with the score of 1-3 (6-11, 6-11, 13-11, and 9-11). In the semis the Czechs will play Markus Böckermann and Mischa Urbatzka of Germany.
In the women’s tournament two German duos – Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude and Teresa Mersmann/Julia Grossner – have found their way to the semis to play there Tanja Goricanec/Muriel Graessli (SUI) and Zara Dampney/Lucy Boulton (ENG) respectively.
