EEVZA Beach Volleyball tour to start this week in Vilnius with FIVB Ranking Points at stake
News from the Zonal Associations
Vilnius, Lithuania, May 7, 2013. The 2013 edition of the Beach Volleyball tour promoted by the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) will get started this week in Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius.
The tournament is open only to female duos and will be joined by a total of 17 teams, with five representing the host country, four from Latvia, six from Russia and two for the likes of Belarus. For the very first time – following a decision by FIVB – the various stops of the EEVZA Tour will be distributing FIVB Ranking Points, something that definitely enhances the attractiveness and appeal of each tournament especially for young and up-and-coming players.
The tournament will be held at Credit24 ARENA, a venue set up specifically for the needs of Beach Volleyball in cooperation with the local sports club „Auksma”. Vilnius did already play host to the CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship in 2011 and later this summer will turn into the venue for the 2013 U20 Champs.
The real headliners of the tournament will be the local heroines Monika Povilaityte and Ieva Dumbauskaite (pictured), the 2011 U18 European champions, 2012 FIVB Youth World champions and bronze medallists from the 2012 CEV U20 European Champs in Hartberg, Austria.
