CEV President visits state-of-the-art development centre in Milan
News from the CEV
Milan, Italy, April 23, 2012. After attending the press conference whereby the local Organizing Committee unveiled the logo as well as the official competition format of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2014, CEV President André Meyer - accompanied by CEV Senior Vice President Aleksandar Boricic - enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Volleyball centre set up by the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) right in the outskirts of Milan.
The facility, known in Italy as “Centro Pavesi”, is a real reference in the country as well as internationally for it hosts – among others – a dormitory to accommodate 21 people, two sports halls where 1 respectively 2 Volleyball courts are set up, plus 2 indoor and 2 outdoor Beach Volleyball courts. The centre and its activities are supported by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) and its regional division in Lombardy who have all joined forces to provide this “jewel” with first-class equipment and facilities.
“Centro Pavesi is one of those infrastructures that are likely to join our network of European Development Centres” says CEV President André Meyer. “We already inspected it some time ago and our next step is to set up all relevant administrative procedures so that the centre will finally enjoy the status of European Regional Development Centre. I am very pleased with the work performed by the Italian Volleyball Federation and its partners here in Milan, as Centro Pavesi stands out as a real role model for anyone who would like to join our efforts to support the growth and long-term development of our sport”.
