News from the clubs
Baku, Azerbaijan, March 18, 2013. Sara Anzanello – a world champion in 2002 with Italy’s national team – underwent this past Saturday an emergency liver transplant after she was diagnosed with hepatitis. The 32-year old middle blocker who this year represented the likes of Azerrail BAKU in the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League is currently fighting for life in a hospital in Milan; the prognosis remains confidential.
Waiting for a medical report and more updates from Italy, the teams competing in the Azeri national league did express their support and closeness to Anzanello by showcasing special banners right before the start of the matches that were played this past weekend (see picture). Her staff recently issued a short statement: “We feel the duty to thank all those who are close to us with their love and are concerned about Sara’s health: friends, relatives and fans. In this time where Sara is facing a difficult challenge, we continue to cheer for her and we do ask for the strictest confidentiality”.
