Paralympic champion attends thrilling Playoff match in Maaseik
News from the clubs

Maaseik, Belum, January 25, 2013. As they played their last match of their European campaign this past Wednesday, Noliko MAASEIK had a special guest in attendance, and namely a gold medalist from the last Paralympic Games in London, Marieke Vervoort.
She opened the game by serving the “ceremonial” first ball and afterwards attended the match that opposed the home heroes to Poland’s Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE. Vervoort and her special assistant – a dog named Zenn – were welcomed by the audience with a standing ovation to pay respect to this remarkable athlete and personality. Vervoort claimed silver this past summer in the 200 m wheelchair T52 setting also a European record. She did improve on that performance only five days later by rushing to Paralympic gold in the 100 m sprint combining that honor with a Paralympic record.
She was very impressed by the atmosphere and ambiance to be enjoyed at Lotto Dôme: “I like watching Volleyball and being here tonight in this impressive venue to watch the game from the first row of the stands is great. Unfortunately Noliko could not make it to the next round but this is the quintessence of sport: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose” she stated.
