Belfast, Northern Ireland, January 16, 2013. Bulgarian media recently recognized the work done by Northern Ireland Volleyball Association Vice President Irena Mihneva (pictured) as the website www.bgvolleyball.com have listed her among a few Bulgarian players and officials who have claimed top honors abroad this past year.
A native of Bulgaria, Mihneva and her family have lived and worked in Lisburn for the past few years. Irena has coached the NI women’s squads at junior and senior level, mentoring the junior group that last year participated in the prelims of the Small Countries Division played in Malta. She is active as a coach and a senior referee as well. Mihneva was the 2010 Beach Volleyball queen in Northern Ireland together with QUB partner Joanna Wiesowska and last year – apart from claiming the NI national league and national cup with QUB – she could also find time to be runner-up on the beach and be an Olympic Torch relay bearer in Ards.
Only three other Bulgarian players have claimed national championships last year, namely Dobriana Rabadzhieva with Rabita BAKU in Azerbaijan, Bozhidar Slavev with TOURS VB in France, and Tsvetelina Zarkova while representing the likes of 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA in Romania.
