CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger & Satellites

Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 12, 2012. Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands claimed on Sunday the CEV Satellite in Vaduz at the end of 5 days that were blessed by great weather and the attendance of an always massive crowd. “After two rainy editions, we finally got the sunshine and the tournament turned into a major success with 12’000 people in attendance this week” said local mentor Philippe Schürmann.
The semifinals played on Sunday morning had contributed a Dutch derby for the last act of the tournament as Brouwer/Meeuwsen had edged Eglseer/Koraimann of Austria 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, and 15-12) while their compatriots Stiekema/Varenhorst did the same with Silva Reis and Fabricio of Portugal (14-21, 21-10 and 15-7).
Silva Reis and Fabricio eventually settled for bronze as they beat the Austrian duo in straight sets in the classification match before Brouwer/Meeuwsen claimed the derby with Stiekema and Varenhorst in straight sets, with a double 21-16.
The last day of action featured also the finals of the LieCup for players of the U15 and U18 age groups as well as the traditional tournaments joined by VIPs, with local heroine Petra Schifferle-Walser teaming up with former alpine skier Marco Büchel to play in the final the duo composed by 1998 Olympic champion in halfpipe Nicola Thost and former volleyball player Oliver Indra. The tournament was joined also by the duo formed by Ramona Kaiser and Andy Wenzel, President of the Liechtenstein Skiing Association, while Tamara Kaufmann played together with local hero Maximilian von Deichmann.
