Swiss duo wins CEV Satellite in Vaduz
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger & Satellites

Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 12, 2012. Muriel Graessli/Joana Heidrich of Switzerland claimed on Saturday the CEV Satellite tournament that celebrated this year its eighth edition there in downtown Vaduz.
Graessli/Heidrich beat Germany’s Victoria Bieneck/Julia Grossner in the final match with the score of 2-1 (21-18, 16-21, and 15-13) after edging Slovenia’s Andreja Vodeb and Simona Fabjan in the semifinals played earlier in the afternoon and followed by a massive crowd that enjoyed the excellent weather conditions blessing this weekend of action in Vaduz. Graessli and Heidrich needed three sets also to cruise past Vodeb/Fabjan while Bieneck/Grossner got past, with a similar result, Stiekema/Braakman of the Netherlands in the other semifinal.
Eventually Stiekema/Braakman, the 2011 U23 European champions, settled for bronze as they won the classification match against Vodeb/Fabjan (21-18, 21-11).

In the men’s competition, as they opened the program with the third round of the Main Draw, Dutchmen Varenhorst/Stiekema and Brouwer/Meeuwsen edged their respective opponents, Kufa/Hadrava of the Czech Republic and Dittelbach/Drössler of Germany, thereby making it to the semis, being joined there by Portugal’s Silva Reis/Fabricio and Eglseer/Koraimann of Austria who surged back via the losers’ bracket.

The semis are scheduled for Sunday morning at 11 am with the consolation final coming up at 5 pm and the final following one hour later. The program of the last day in Vaduz includes also the final matches of the LieCup for the U15 and U18 age groups as well as an amateur competition joined by local VIPs.
