Serbia claims home gold at Balkan Junior Champs

Zrenjanin, Serbia, August 11, 2012. In what was a good test to prepare for the upcoming final round of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship, Serbia seized gold at the men’s Balkan Junior Championship sponsored by Halkbank that were completed on Saturday in Zrenjanin.
The competition was joined by a total of nine teams – Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey – and the tournament lasted for five days. Serbia eventually edged Greece in the final match 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-21, and 25-18) to claim gold while Turkey beat Montenegro with the same score (21-25, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-23) to finish third in the standings. In other matches that determined the positions 5 to 8, Romania downed Bosnia & Herzegovina in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, and 31-29) to be ranked fifth while the F.Y.R. of Macedonia cruised past Bulgaria also in three sets (30-28, 25-23, and 25-20) to settle for the seventh place.
