Turkey's next generation debuts with home gold in Balkan Pre-Youth Champs

Ankara, Turkey, August 10, 2012. The home heroines of Turkey claimed the inaugural edition of the Balkan Girls’ Pre-Youth Championship sponsored by Halkbank that was completed on Thursday in Ankara.
The competition was joined by a total of four teams – Turkey, Romania, Serbia and the F.Y.R. of Macedonia – and played with the format of a single round robin. Serbia and Turkey claimed their respective matches with Romania and the F.Y.R. of Macedonia so their clash on the last day of the tournament was going to determine the final standings as well as the composition of the podium. Turkey eventually edged Serbia in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, and 25-19) to finish first and celebrate that historic title in what was an attempt by the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA) to support the activities of the national teams also at pre-youth level. In the other match of the last day, Romania beat the F.Y.R. of Macedonia 3-0 (25-19, 25-9 and 25-15) to finish third and get awarded the bronze medal.
