CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger & Satellites
Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 9, 2012. Perfect weather conditions and full stands accompanied the second day of action at the CEV Satellite in Vaduz where the home ladies Petra Schifferle-Walser and Ramona Kayser made their debut on the center court at noon. They eventually lost to Galova/Vankova of the Czech Republic (10-21, 5-21) as they could not display their full potential but again they were cheered by a loud crowd as they got back in action for the evening session, ultimately being ousted by another Czech duo, Vorlova/Rehackova, in straight sets (14-21, 20-22).
The women’s Main Draw started on Thursday morning with four duos, Czech Republic’s Bonnerova/Hermannova, Austria’s Hansel/Jirak, Dutchwomen Sinnema/Wesselink and the Swiss pair Graessli/Heidrich all claiming their opening matches in straight sets. On the other hand, Bieneck/Grossner of Germany, Stiekema/Braakman of the Netherlands and Slovenia’s Vodeb/Fabjan all needed three sets to cruise past their respective rivals.
Vodeb/Fabjan advanced to the third round of play by beating the first-seeded pair of the tournament, Bonnerova/Hermannova, being emulated by Swiss Muriel Graessli/Joana Heidrich who edged Hansel/Jirak of Austria. Stiekema/Braakman and Bieneck/Grossner also cruised to the next phase of the competition by downing their opponents in straight sets.
The men’s tournament started with the qualification phase on Thursday morning with a first round where Swiss Bühler/Catschegn lost to Portugal’s Silva Reis/Fabricio 1-2. This duo extended their winning streak in the second round by besting another Swiss pair, Kovatsch and Kissling to be joined in the Main Draw starting on Friday by Kufa/Pridal (CZE), Dittelbach/Drössler (GER), Oude Elferink/Rademaker (NED), Austria’s Eglseer/Koraimann and Kunert/Moser, plus Italy’s Galli/Cecchini and Regza/Abolins of Latvia.
The home heroes Manuel Gahr/Maximilian von Deichmann will start their adventure on the center court at 12.20 by playing Germany’s Dittelbach/Drössler.
