High expectations for the second day of tournament in Assen
2012 CEV U23 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Assen, Netherlands, July 19, 2012. The 2012 CEV U23 Beach Volleyball European Championship being held in Assen reaches its decisive stage in the second day of competition, as the participating teams engage in a battle to make it to the final rounds of the tournament.
The sun made shy appearances in day 2 of the tournament, briefly interrupting the cloudy and rainy pattern of the first day. The improvement of the weather conditions and the much longed rays of sun are encouraging players to really shine in the second day of the tournament, in the spectacular matches that will decide the future in the competition of the bright young stars of European Beach Volleyball.
After the celebration of the first matches of the pool round on Wednesday, the final standings of all the groups are being decided on Thursday morning. The teams are giving their best in the last games of the pool round, in order to avoid an early elimination from the championship.
The main goal of the duos competing in the matches on Thursday is to pass the first cut and continue playing in Assen. Some teams will achieve this objective, some will have to say goodbye to their hopes in the championship. The later is the case of Swedish team Thurin/Thurin, who lost all three matches and finished in fourth position of pool B. “It is a shame that we lost all our matches, but what can you do?”, said Susanna Thurin.
Once the pool round is completed, the remaining 16 teams will clash in the first round of the tournament, in a series of playoff games in which the favourites will try to establish their dominance in order to reach the final stages of the tournament. Emotion, the best Beach Volleyball actions and hopefully a little bit of sun mark the expectations for day 2 of the exciting championship being held in Assen.
