Bulgaria maintains perfect record after shutting out Turkey
2012 CEV Volleyball European League - Women
Izmir, Turkey, June 17, 2012. Two straight-set victories marked day 3 of the second leg in Pool B of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women. Bulgaria maintained its perfect record by adding a sixth consecutive win to it, this time against hosts Turkey by 3:0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-22). France had no problem dealing with the young Swiss team and also shut out its opponent by 3:0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17).
Turkey could not resist Bulgaria’s domination in the first set and lost by a solid 13-25. Bulgaria managed to pile an advantage from the beginning of the second set. Although Turkey managed to narrow the gap down to 1 point at 24-23, Bulgaria won the set after the next rally. Turkey made a good start of the third set. The home team led the score until 12-11. However, the Bulgarians took the upper hand and finished the match. Bulgarian wing-spiker Dobriana Rabadzhieva topped the scorers’ charts with 15 points, including 2 aces.
In the earlier match today, the first two sets were quite easy for the French team and Switzerland was never able to counter the opponent’s domination. This led to the convincing 15-25 and 18-25. Switzerland woke up at the beginning of set 3 and led the score until right before the second technical time-out. However, middle blocker Christina Bauer showed a solid performance behind the serving line and the Swiss girls were only able to make 2 points after the second mandatory break - 17-25. French middle blocker Maéva Orle and wing-spiker Alexandra Dascalu topped the scorers’ charts with 13 points each.
