Imoco Volley look forward to historic Final Four on home soil
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Verona, Italy, April 11, 2017. The countdown to the Final Four of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women has started! On Tuesday, two star players of Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO, Serena Ortolani and Monica De Gennaro, as well as members of their coaching staff and management attended a press conference where they invited all Volleyball fans to come to Palaverde for the much-anticipated party that will be taking place there on April 22-23.
Team captain Serena Ortolani said: “I have to thank our management for the opportunity they provide us with – playing a Final Four at home is a real privilege. This is the first time I will be doing so in my career and it will be a terrific experience from an emotional standpoint. We expect to play before a sell-out crowd and this will provide us with an extra boost of energy, which we will be trying to use to our advantage. It will be a truly exceptional party featuring the world’s best Volleyball players. I very much hope there will be many people there – this is something none should miss.”
“We are not the favourites because there are teams with incredibly strong players, but I am sure that the audience will provide us with an extra bit of energy. We have the advantage of playing at home and surely it is an extra motivation,” Monica De Gennaro added. “I invite everyone to come and witness a true spectacle.”
Head coach Davide Mazzanti: “Since I won’t be able to continue working with Imoco Volley as I can’t combine this position with my commitments to the national team, the last stage of this season has become even more important to me. I want to pay back the club and our management for all of their support by achieving an important feat. As organisers, we progressed straight to the Final Four and we are motivated to show that we deserve to be among the top four teams in Europe. We are preparing for the semi-final with Dinamo MOSCOW; they have strong and powerful players, so we have to surprise them by playing a fast game. However, before that we have the quarterfinals of our national league – we want to make it to the next round and get one extra boost for the Final Four.”
Today’s event held at Vinitaly – a prestigious international wine and spirits exhibition annually taing place in Verona – was also an opportunity to present to the media the partnership that the organisers have reached with the authorities of Regione Veneto, whose ‘governor’, Luca Zaia, was also in attendance. “The Final Four is a great initiative and I would like to thank the management of Imoco Volley for this – they believed in a dream, which eventually came true. We are proud of having such high-calibre and visionary businesspersons, who provide our people with the opportunity to witness an event such as the Final Four,” he said.
The chairperson of Imoco Volley, Piero Garbellotto: “After taking the first national league title last year, we took the first Final Four to our region and of course we are very proud of this, but at the same time it feels like a huge responsibility. We have been working hard so that everything works fine – Palaverde will be dressed up to host foreign guests, fans and media. We hope they will all have a great memory of this experience. We are trying to make as many people as possible aware of this event and to spark much enthusiasm ahead of two days, which we hope will be unforgettable ones.”
