Drawing of Lots sets tone for much-anticipated #EuroVolleyU18W Finals
2017 CEV U18 Volleyball European Championship - Women
Arnhem, Netherlands, February 10, 2017. All conditions are there for an exciting and memorable Final Round of the 2017 CEV U18 Volleyball European Championship – Women following the Drawing of Lots that took place on Friday late afternoon at Openlucht Museum / Kasteelboerderij in Arnhem, the Dutch city playing host to the tournament scheduled for April 1 to 9. There is a lot to look forward to since this competition will provide Europe’s ‘stars of tomorrow’ with a unique opportunity to shine and achieve the first major success in their still young careers.
Following Friday’s Drawing of Lots, the composition of the two preliminary pools reads as follows:
Pool I: Netherlands, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Germany, Italy
Pool II: Poland, Greece, Serbia, Belarus, Romania, Slovenia

Next to hosts the Netherlands, 11 more teams secured their participation in the Final Round of the U18 Women’s European Championship following the qualification rounds played in mid-January. These are the winners of the eight second-round qualifiers – Serbia, Belarus, Turkey, Poland, Russia, Germany, Greece and Bulgaria – plus the three runners-up with the best results across all pools – i.e. Romania, Italy and Slovenia.
Russia are the defending champions since they won gold two years ago in Plovdiv, where Serbia and Belgium completed the podium settling for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The Final Round of the championship first held back in 1995 will feature as usual 12 teams divided into two pools of six each. At the end of a single round robin, the top two from each pool will progress to the semis whereas the third and fourth placed from each pool will contest the classification matches 5-8.
The top six from the 2017 CEV U18 Volleyball European Volleyball Championship – Women will compose the European contingent for the 2017 edition of the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship due to take place from August 18 – 27 in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina. The top seven will join hosts Hungary in the Volleyball competition of the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) that the city of Győr (Hungary) will be hosting in late July.
