Hundreds of young Volleyballers attend #EuroVolleyU18W qualifier in Nova Gorica
2017 CEV U18 Volleyball European Championship - Women
Nova Gorica, Slovenia, January 13, 2017. As Nova Gorica is currently hosting one of eight second-round qualification tournaments to this year’s CEV U18 Volleyball European Championship – Women, 300 members of the local Volleyball club had the opportunity to present themselves to the audience and participating teams.
The group includes young children and members of the men’s and women’s senior teams from the city that lies right next to the Italian border. Two groups of little kids aged from three to six and some more athletes joined in as well.
The local Volleyball club started earlier this season a project they are very proud of, under the slogan “Volleyball School Mali Genij”. They work with nine local primary schools where Volleyball is being shown and taught to as many as 200 children. The response from the kids has been great this far as they seem to be literally fond of the game.
Five teams per gender from the younger ones to the senior teams train and play in Nova Gorica and the U20 have taken the national crown last year. The senior women’s team currently sit in third place in the Slovenian national league and their goal is to win a medal by the end of the season, whereas the men are playing their first season in the highest division of the country’s national championship.
As many as 12 coaches work hard to provide children with their knowledge and grow future professional Volleyball players. “We are happy to be here and it was a great idea to show members of the local Volleyball club during this tournament,” one young member of the club said. “We will now stay on and support the Slovenian national team during their matches.”
