LP KANGASALA rout RANDABERG IL in Nordic derby
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Kangasala, Finland, January 11, 2017. Finland’s LP KANGASALA secured on Wednesday night their spot in the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women after routing Norway’s RANDABERG IL 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) in a much anticipated Nordic derby.

It took almost half of the first set for the two teams to find their rhythm with many mistakes from both sides affecting the quality of the game. After the second technical time-out, LP KANGASALA and RANDABERG IL finally found their game with the hosts coming out on top in the end 25-23. LP KANGASALA dominated the second set from start to end (25-14) and as a result, the Finns already secured their progression to the next round of the competition. LP KANGASALA used the third set as an opportunity to test some of the younger players but this did not prevent the Finns from cruising to a comprehensive 25-17 and 3-0 victory.

Virginie De Carne, head coach of LP KANGASALA: “It was a good game. The first set was the best that RANDABERG IL played in the two matches against us. It was great to have the opportunity to provide the whole team with some playing time. We will now wait for the result of the matchup between OrPo ORIVESI and SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN. By going further in the competition, the matches will only get tougher and tougher. Luckily enough, we have some tough matches in the Finnish league as well which can help us prepare for the next European Cup fixtures.”

Outi Munnukka, team captain of LP KANGASALA: “The game did not start at it should even though we had the feeling that it would end in the right way. It was really great that the whole team had the chance to perform tonight.”

Espen Sørbø, head coach of RANDABERG IL: “Our first middle blocker was sick and could not play tonight. We wanted to play hard and it seems that LP KANGASALA were a little surprised by the way we played in the first set but they eventually played a great game.”

Hanne Synnove Tonnesen, player of RANDABERG IL: “It was a tough game and the first set was the best we have had in our two matches with LP KANGASALA.”
