Dinamo KRASNODAR take crucial away victory at CS Volei Alba BLAJ
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Sibiu, Romania, January 11, 2017. Dinamo KRASNODAR (pictured) took their first victory in the group stage of the 2017 Volleyball Champions League after beating Romanian team CS Volei Alba BLAJ in 111 minutes with a score of 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-22).

Some 1,300 people came to Transilvania Sporting Center in Sibiu to witness two teams who were both looking for their first victory of the competition. However, most left in disappointment when the Russian team of Dinamo KRASNODAR ran out eventual winners by three sets to one in what was mostly a very close and competitive match.

In the first set, the lead changed hands a number of times with the home team dominating early before they were pegged back by Dinamo, the away team then themselves had a significant lead halfway through the set, which they also threw away. It was however them that were ahead when it mattered, taking the first set 25-23.

The second and third sets were stark opposites, with the Romanian team leading for the entire second set and the Russian team doing the same for the complete third. Both sets contained some long and entertaining rallies, but finished 25-16 to CS Volei Alba BLAJ and then 25-19 to Dinamo KRASNODAR respectively.

The fourth set started with the feeling that it was going to prove to be crucial. The away team continued from where they had left and led by a few points at the first technical time-out; however, the hosts came back well to have a four-point lead right into the early 20s. Finally, the away team found something special when it mattered as they took an impressive set victory 25-22 to take the match and the points that they came for.

Natalia Malykh from Dinamo KRASNODAR proved to be the best scorer, taking 27 points throughout the match.
