F.Y.R. of Macedonia and Sweden to clash for first place in Pool 3
2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men
Strumica, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, May 10, 2014. Sweden and the hosts of the F.Y.R. of Macedonia easily disposed of their opponents also on the second day of competition at the first-round European qualifier for the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Men in Strumica. Sweden beat Azerbaijan 3:0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) before the home heroes cruised to another speedy victory over Georgia (25-13, 25-12, 25-14). On Sunday these teams will cross their ways to determine who finishes first in the Pool.
After routing Georgia on Friday, Sweden showed no mercy also for the other underdog of the group, i.e. the national team of Azerbaijan. After skipping the match with Georgia, Sweden’s major star Marcus Nilsson (pictured) joined the actions on Saturday and contributed 25 points for his side. This is a very remarkable tally especially since the match was over after three sets. Nilsson’s effort was well supported by Peter Lundgren and Carl Ahremark who registered 10 points apiece.
Later in the afternoon the home heroes of the F.Y.R. of Macedonia delighted 1,100 fans at Park sports hall in Strumica cruising to a speedy victory over Georgia. Their opposite and team captain Nikola Gjorgiev topped the scorers’ charts with 15 points. Sosho Lobzhanidze paced Georgia with 11.
