Aurubis sweeps Croatian opponent in less than one hour

Hamburg, Germany, December 11, 2013. Last year’s semifinalists Aurubis HAMBURG of Germany continue to perform well in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women as on Wednesday they claimed the first round of the 1/16 finals by routing Croatia’s OK POREC in straight sets (25-11, 25-14, and 25-10) in only 56 minutes as more than 600 fans were in attendance at the CU Arena.
Aurubis showed their intention to go for a straight victory right from the start of the game as they scored three points in a row. They could easily set the tempo of the game at the first and second technical time-out (8:2, 16:4) as they showed their superiority in every single fundamental. They needed only 18 minutes to cash the first set with the massive score of 25-11. The second set followed a slightly different plot: the score was close up to 6 all but after that the hosts controlled the operations and broke away with six points in a row. Even though OK POREC could claim some more points than in the previous set, Aurubis said the final word after another 20 minutes (25-14) to make it 2:0. Aurubis opened the third set with a terrific 5:0 and the score was clearly controlled by the hosts at the first as well as at the second technical time-out (8:5, 16:7). They finished it off after another 18 minutes of clear supremacy with their captain Imke Wedekind standing out as she registered 15 points and a terrific 89% of successful attacks.
