Istanbul, Turkey, February 12, 2014. Fenerbahce SK. ISTANBUL qualified for the semifinals of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women. The Turkish team knocked out Agel PROSTEJOV without losing a single set in either leg of their quarterfinal clash. In the return match at home Fenerbahce shut out its opponent by 3:0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15).
Around 1200 fans welcomed the Czech representatives at the Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall with their chants. The visiting team made a great start of the game looking for the points with Katie Carter but the Yellow Angels dominated the first part of the game with the efficient serving from Yeon-Koung Kim and Alisha Glass and Eda Erdem Dundar's spikes in offense. The home team was excellent in finding the free spaces on the opponent’s side, especially with the explosive powers of Christina Bauer and Fernanda Garay Rodrigues. Inspired by the fans’ support from the stands, Kim made seven successful serves in a row. Apart from one miss at reception, Bauer played at 100%. Fenerbahce used the middle attacks effectively and the first set ended at 25-20 in favor of the home team.
The second set started with Bauer's spike from the left side. While Kim was putting her character into the game, Agel was very efficient with Pavla Vincourova and Katie Carter. The Czech side was also excellent with the blocks by Quinta Steenbergen and took an 8-5 lead. Marcello Abbondanza injected captain Seda Tokatlioglu into the game and this cheered up the fans even more. After blocks by Erdem and Glass, the second technical time-out came at 16-13 to the home side. A reception mistake by Sonja Borovinsek presented the second set to Fenerbahce: 25-17.
In the third set Vincourova shook up Fenerbahce's defense with her fast and furious spikes. Agel respected the game and never gave up playing to contribute to a great volleyball recital for the fans. Fenerbahce revived its mood by letting in several substitute players. Ayse Gokcen Denkel Zop's serving prompted a reception mistake in Andrea Kossanyiova's hands and stamped the qualification of Fenerbahce to the semifinals with a 25-15 and 3:0.
Fernanda Garay Rodrigues became the best scorer of the match with 12 points, while Andrea Kossanyiova was Agel’s most prolific player with 11.
