Tauron MKS young mentor Nicola Negro hopes for successful CL debut
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, December 2, 2013. After debuting on Sunday at the helm of Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA with a 3:0 away victory over Palac BYDGOSZCZ, 33-year old Italian-born mentor Nicola Negro will be confronted on Wednesday with a much more difficult task as his team plays host to Switzerland’s Volero ZÜRICH in the fourth round of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women.
After a very poor start of their domestic season, Tauron MKS decided to sign Turkey’s setter Özge Cemberci Kirdar and after another series of setbacks their mentor Waldemar Kawka resigned so that the management decided to contract the young Italian coach for the remainder of the season.
Though they easily edged Palac BYDGOSZCZ in their last game of the national league, still Tauron MKS made many mistakes. “We haven’t been playing that good lately so that we lost some important matches and also points along the way” says team captain Elzbieta Skowronska.
“We caught a good start on Sunday beating Palac in straight sets but now we will focus only and exclusively on the CL fixture with Volero” adds Negro who will surely remember his debut at the helm of Tauron MKS for a long time. He counts on his side’s team spirit in order to deliver a good performance also on Wednesday night as the Poles play Volero.
The match is going to be very difficult with the Swiss champions having showed a great duo in action last week as they beat Tauron MKS paced by Kenia Carcaces and Olesya Rykhliuk.
With Dinamo KAZAN standing out as the clear leader of the Pool, this game will most probably determine who is going to finish the prelims in second place and so qualify for the Playoffs 12.
Volero believe in their chances to win again: “The game in Poland will be tough but I think that we can accomplish our mission as long as we believe in us” says team captain Mira Golubovic.
