Rabita cruises to third straight victory after routing DRESDNER SC
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Dresden, Germany, November 27, 2013. On
Wednesday DRESDNER SC of Germany suffered their second defeat in the prelims of
the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women as they lost in
straight sets to Rabita BAKU of Azerbaijan (19-25, 23-25, and 20-25). Last year’s
silver medalists claimed their third straight victory in the
competition to cement their leadership in Pool A.
the home heroines of DRESDNER SC caught a good start as they went up 4:2 and
8:6 in the first set; they did a great job in attack as well as in defense up
to the moment the score was leveled at 11 all. After that Rabita changed their
pace and already had a margin of three points by the second technical time-out.
The young German players found it difficult to stand that tempo and as Rabita
blocked local star Lisa Izquierdo they sealed the opening set with the score of
second set turned into a very close fight with the teams playing point for
point up to 23 all. In the end it was Rabita that showed more composure and
experience with Natasa Krsmanovic and Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata scoring the
last couple of points for the side from Azerbaijan (25-23).
looked pretty easy for Rabita in the third set where they jumped out to a 12:9
and 15:12 lead; however, DRESDNER SC did not stop fighting and had reduced
their gap to only one point at the second technical time-out. Polish superstar
Katarzyna Skowronska scored with good consistency – she registered 24 points in
the end – and Rabita finished the game with a block for a well-deserved
straight victory (25-20).
