SOPOT welcomes Belgian rookie in CL second round
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Sopot, Poland, October 27, 2013. Atom Trefl SOPOT will play on Tuesday Belgium’s GENT Dames in what is their first home game in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. As they got back from Romania where they beat Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI on Wednesday, the “Atomic girls” prolonged their winning streak in the national league with another straight victory, this time over BKS Aluprof BIELSKO-BIALA.
“This match is going to be quite similar to the one we played in Romania” says SOPOT libero Mariola Zenik. “We know that GENT has been playing with their core players for quite some time but we are ready to fight and we definitely want to win.” “I know most of their players very well” adds the Belgian spiker of Atom Trefl, Charlotte Leys. “Many of their players are also members of our national team and we have been playing together. I know they play fast Volleyball but I hope we can stand their quality with our block and playing good in defense. We play at home so I guess there will be plenty of fans in attendance and like for any other game they will be our seventh player.”
The group that SOPOT was assigned to features also the likes of world champions VakifBank ISTANBUL, who are also the winners of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League. “I think that VakifBank is going to top the charts in our group but all other teams want to fight for that second place so as to make the Playoffs 12” Zenik stresses.
GENT Dames lost in straight sets their home debut with VakifBank while SOPOT edged Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI 3:1 in Romania. Anna Podolec, Charlotte Leys and Zuzanna Efimienko will try to anchor the home side whilst Karolien Verstrepen shall follow up on her good performance with VakifBank where she paced GENT Dames with 12 points.
