Rookies TV Ingersoll BÜHL make Challenge Round after away victory in Greece
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Thessaloniki, Greece, January 23, 2014. Germany’s TV Ingersoll BÜHL added on Wednesday night another chapter to their fairy tale in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. After edging PAOK THESSALONIKI in straight sets last week, TV Ingersoll claimed also the return game in Greece’s second largest city (3:2; 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 26-28, and 15-12) to progress to the Challenge Round and play there France’s PARIS Volley.
TV Ingersoll opted for their usual starting six including Axel Jacobsen, Joseph Sunder, Nicholas Vogel, Marvin Prolingheuer, Björn Höhne, Andri Aganits and libero David Molnar. They claimed the first set but after another close fight PAOK responded by winning the second. TV Ingersoll got back on track in the third where their libero Molnar was simply outstanding and as they cruised to the final 25-22 they already booked their ticket to the Challenge Round even before the end of the game. Taking this into consideration, head coach Ruben Wolochin decided to rest his best players with Nicholas Vogel being the only one from the starting six that performed also for the remainder of the match. In the end, after losing the fourth set, TV Ingersoll brought it home at the tie-break (15-12) to celebrate yet another victory in what has been so far a formidable season for the team.
“The players got rid of the stress resulting from a long journey and they showed their ambition and determination to make the Challenge Round” says team manager Georgios Vlachojannis. “We played with confidence and I am evidently very happy with the result.”
PAOK THESSALONIKI played without Bradley Lawson and Michail Christoforidis who are both injured. “We knew this was going to be a tough game” commented head coach Thanassis Strantzalis. “We have had many problems lately and even though we tried to play our best, it was evident that we were lacking alternative solutions because of our limited roster. I nevertheless want to thank our fans for their support and hope to have them at our side also for the remainder of the season.”
