Rookie TV Ingersoll takes on PAOK in CEV Cup quarterfinals
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Bühl, Germany, January 14, 2013. On Wednesday Germany’s TV Ingersoll BUHL will be playing Greece’s PAOK THESSALONIKI for the first round of action in the 1/4 finals of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. TV Ingersoll caused a sensation in the previous round edging Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO at the golden set to progress to the 1/4 finals.
The upcoming clash with PAOK is a real joy for the Greek-born team manager of TV Ingersoll, Georgios Vlachojannis. “It is a dream come true” he says.
PAOK THESSALONIKI is one of the leading forces in this year’s Greek national league and in the previous rounds of the CEV Volleyball Cup got past Mladost Marina KASTELA of Croatia and Serbia’s Radnicki KRAGUJEVAC. After the holiday break, PAOK resumed their campaign with a new head coach and assistant coach, namely Athanasios Strantzalis and Panagiotis Dimitrof. Four players – Dimitrios Charalampidis, Jernej Potocnik, Nikolaos Palentzas, and Simo Dabovic – have left the team while Bradley Lawson and Michail Christoforidis were added to the roster. On Wednesday PAOK will be showing if they have already found the right chemistry after so many changes in a relatively short period of time. Greek supporters from as many as five different fan clubs are set to travel to Bühl to cheer on their heroes on Wednesday night.
TV Ingersoll is making their first appearance this year in the CEV Volleyball Cup and only a few could believe before the start of the season that the players around head coach Ruben Wolochin would have made the 1/4 finals. However, the local heroes are very motivated to perform as good as possible to make it to the Challenge Round and get the right to play there France’s PARIS Volley. “With the support of our fans everything is possible” Wolochin says. “If we serve good and strong we can put our opponents under pressure and then we will be able to score.”
