Generali UNTERHACHING stuns Precura ANTWERP in CEV Cup return match
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Antwerp, Belgium, November 1, 2013. After winning last week their home game in Germany, Generali UNTERHACHING upset once more Belgium’s Precura ANTWERPEN to make it to the 1/8 finals of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. This time Generali outclassed the hosts in straight sets (25-22, 25-23, and 25-16) to get the right to play Spain’s CAI TERUEL in the next round.
Precura ANTWERPEN was supposed to put up another close fight but their many supporters – there were 1,600 in attendance – were disappointed for the local heroes played well below their usual standards and lost the return game in straight sets. Generali was anchored by Simon Hirsch and Ewoud Gommans who pressured Precura’s defense line with their great serves and killed a series of terrific attacks.

“I did not expect to win so easily” said Generali head coach Mihai Paduretu after the match. “I thought this would be a very close game like we had last week in Germany but our opponents did not play at the same level. We are having a good time with these two wins in the CEV Cup plus some more good results in the Bundesliga. We are a group of friends and you can see that on the court and this evidently impacts also on the results we achieve.”

“I am really disappointed but we have to be honest: this opponent was too strong for us tonight and they fully deserved to make the next round. We simply could not find a way to stop their attacks” said home mentor Kris Tanghe.
