Noliko welcomes Russian giant Belogorie for their last home match
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Maaseik, Belgium, December 16, 2013. On Wednesday Noliko MAASEIK will be hosting Russian giant Belogorie BELGOROD – a two-time winner (in 2003 and 2004) of the CEV Volleyball Champions League – for the last round of the prelims. Belogorie will travel to Belgium with a perfect record of five wins in as many matches and no sets dropped so far in the competition. It will be a unique opportunity for the Belgian fans to see some of the world’s best Volleyball players in action at the Lotto Dôme.
“Belogorie may be compared to what FC Barcelona stands for in soccer, i.e. a superb world-class team” says Noliko head coach Erik Verstraten. “We have nothing to lose and we will be using this match to make the next step forward in the development of our team. My players will be extra motivated to play against one of the best teams in the world, something you do not get every day” continues the Belgian mentor.
“The fact that we already qualified to the Playoffs 12 does not mean that we are taking this game very relaxed because our goal is to sweep all of our matches in the prelims” says the legendary mentor of Belogorie, Gennadi Shipulin. “I know that Noliko has a very good home record and an enthusiastic crowd, so we will not underestimate our opponent.”
By winning last week in the Czech Republic where they routed VK OSTRAVA in straight sets, the home heroes of Noliko made sure they will finish the prelims in second place but with nine points they are currently out of contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12. “I am happy that we have already claimed the right to play in the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup and our chances to continue this campaign in the Champions League also depend on the results from the other Pools” Belgian coach Verstraten concludes.
