Still in contention for the Playoffs 12 VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN hosts Belgian sensation Knack ROESELARE
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Friedrichshafen, Germany, December 16, 2013. VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN of Germany still has got slim chances to make the Playoffs 12 of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men as on Wednesday they play their last game before the much awaited Christmas break hosting Belgium’s sensation Knack ROESELARE. The guests have swept five straight matches in prelim Pool G and booked their ticket to the Playoffs 12 last week while VfB will be trying to seize the night to finish among the five second-ranked teams with the best score that will also advance to the next phase.
This weekend VfB qualified to the final of the national cup scheduled for next March in Halle/Westfalen after routing TV Ingersoll BÜHL in straight sets. VfB will be playing there another CL competitor, BERLIN Recycling Volleys. “We showed a very strong performance in the semis of the national cup and I would be happy if we could continue this way” says team captain Max Günthör.

The task to beat Knack ROESELARE at home is not an easy mission to accomplish. “They are already qualified for the next round so they are coming and will play with no pressure” Günthör adds. “Perhaps they may be less concentrated and focused than in their previous matches.” Knack lost last week one set to Turkey’s underdogs Galatasaray FXTCR ISTANBUL, so maybe there is a chance for VfB. The Germans have gone through ups and downs since the start of the season losing their opening game to Knack and another two to Poland’s Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE. Still VfB could beat Galatasaray twice to claim second place in the current standing of the Pool with eight points.
“It’s all nor nothing” Günthör says. “We need a clear victory and some support from Belogorie in Pool B to make the next round”. VfB needs to seize the night with a 3:0 or 3:1 victory over ROESELARE and then hope that – though already qualified to the Playoffs 12 – Belogorie BELGOROD will be motivated enough to down Noliko MAASEIK in their last game for Pool B. “We really want to make the Playoffs and we are in a good mood after this victory in the national cup. We are well prepared and highly motivated” Günthör concludes.
