Russian giant Belogorie hosts Olympiacos in CL fifth round
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Belgorod, Russia, December 9, 2013. On Wednesday Russia’s giant Belogorie BELGOROD will be playing their last home match in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League as they host Olympiacos PIRAEUS of Greece. Belogorie has practically pre-booked a spot in the Playoffs 12 with four consecutive victories and no sets lost so far while Olympiacos is fighting with Belgium’s Noliko MAASEIK for making the next round of Europe’s elite club competition. In order to achieve this goal, Olympiacos shall claim at least one or two sets in Russia as Noliko will be playing the still winless Czechs of VK OSTRAVA.
The “Lions” of Belogorie BELGOROD still have an immaculate record also in the national league after edging Kuzbass KEMEROVO – currently mentored by Frenchman Eric Ngapeth – in straight sets in the last round of the Superleague.
Olympiacos currently sits in third place in their national league with a record of six victories in nine matches. After losing to Noliko MAASEIK last week in Belgium, Olympiacos dropped down to third place also in Pool B of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League and therefore the players around head coach Dimitris Kazazis will travel to Russia fully motivated to go for a good result in order to keep alive their chances to make the next round. They need to show a solid performance in Belgorod before they host VK OSTRAVA for the last game of the prelims.
“They have no chance to step back and therefore they will be fighting for every point” says Belogorie head coach Gennadi Shipulin. “My team has to play with full power if we want to secure our leadership in the Pool even before the last round.”
