Former champions TRENTINO also keep immaculate record after four rounds
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Trento, Italy, December 4, 2013. On Wednesday night Italy’s champions Diatec TRENTINO beat Arkas IZMIR of Turkey for a second time in prelim Pool D of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men (3:0; 25-21, 26-24, and 25-15), scoring their fourth consecutive victory in the group.
The opening set was played point for point (17:17); both teams delighted the fans at the PalaTrento with long rallies and spectacular defense actions. At the end the hosts, thanks to a couple of break points by middle blocker Sebastian Solé, took a crucial lead and closed the first section of the game at 25-21.
The same story unfolded in the second set, where TRENTINO alternated superb actions and silly mistakes, trying to hold back the attempts of a really motivated Turkish team. This set was finally closed by the home team with the score of 26-24. In the third and final set the Italians caught a good start (11:7), driven by their wing spiker Alexandre Ferreira and by middle blocker Solé, one of the best players for TRENTINO tonight. The guests of IZMIR slowed their pace down and never fought back; TRENTINO could easily claim the third set (25-15) and make a step forward on their way to the Playoffs 12.

The Argentinean middle blocker Sebastian Solé was named MVP of the match with 88% of efficiency in attack (10 points, including three blocks). Noteworthy was also the performance of opposite Tsvetan Sokolov (56% of efficiency in attack and two aces). On the other side of the net Slovenian spiker Tine Urnaut scored 11 points and was the only one who was able to hold the rhythm of the triple CL champions.

“We have brought home 3 important points; they basically make sure we will advance to the Playoffs 12 for we will at least finish among the second ranked teams with the best score. As I said before the match, IZMIR has become much stronger compared to the first match we played in Turkey. Nevertheless we could win, thanks to our good performance in block and defense and managing difficult actions and situations. I am satisfied, as I saw the team I expected to see, especially in the hardest sections of the match” stated local coach Roberto Serniotti.
“For sure we played better than in the home match, fighting at least in the first and second set, with a good performance in defense. We are a very young team, which has good potential and needs to face opponents like this in order to grow and become stronger.” said the head coach of Arkas IZMIR Glenn Hoag.
