Halkbank ANKARA wants to make it all the way through the Finals
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Ankara, Turkey, December 3, 2013. As they are about to host Austria’s Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK on Thursday for the fourth round in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, Pool F leaders Halkbank ANKARA organized a press conference to share their feelings after three rounds and waiting for the second half of their campaign in the League Round.
“We have won three matches in a row and so we got a bit closer to the achievement of our goal which is to play in this year’s Finals” said club President Selahattin Süleymanoglu addressing the media. “However, our first goal is to finish the prelims on top of the tables in our Pool. We want to win also the upcoming game with Hypo Tirol and make it through the next rounds all the way to the Finals. I feel very excited and would like to announce that we will apply to organize the Final Four here in Ankara” he continued. “We will continue to investigate and prepare our bid as we still have time up to next December 12. As for the money, I would like to stress that we are carefully using our financial resources and we never go beyond their sustainability. We did so also last summer as we completed some important transfers.”

Halkbank head coach Radostin Stoytchev said: “We are working hard to achieve our goals and we will be doing so taking it step by step. I am very happy with what we have achieved so far in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. I think that so far we have showed 65% of our potential, so there is still much room for improvement. We are about to sign another middle blocker. We still need some time to find the right chemistry because the calendar is really overloaded and therefore we did not have the chance to have that many practices all together. We have another month to get ready for the most important stage of this competition. My players get along very well with each other; there is a good competition in the group because they all have their own character and are good players. They know what to do and when they are supposed to perform. Everyone will get the opportunity to play and it makes me happy to hear and know that with our players we are seen as a very tough competitor by all of our opponents.”

Halkbank setter Hüseyin Koc added: “We wish to make the Final Four and I think we have the right skills to achieve this goal. If we get the chance, of course we would be very happy to host this year’s Finals. I believe that we may win the trophy at home.” Koc spoke also about the fact that he is working together with Raphael Vieira de Oliveira who just moved this summer to Ankara and is one of the stars in the group: “I am very lucky because I can train with the best setter in the world. I can share many things with him and I am proud of being a member of a team that has set very high goals for this season. I have never been the second setter in any team for 20 years, so this situation is somehow new to me but I am getting used to it and I am ready to give my best for the good of the club.”

“I really like being here and I am proud of playing for Halkbank this year” added Raphael. “We are fighting to achieve maximum goals in the national league as well as in the Champions League. I am very happy with this. I have no problems at all with Hüseyin and I think that we can learn a lot from each other. My priority is not to play all the time but to achieve the results and the goals that the club has set for this season” he concluded.
