Fourth consecutive setback for rookie Galatasaray
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Istanbul, Turkey, December 3, 2013. On Tuesday Turkey’s rookie Galatasaray FXTCR ISTANBUL lost their fourth consecutive match in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men. After already losing in Germany, Galatasaray was edged once more by VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, this time with the score of 1:3 (19-25, 22-25, 25-23, and 20-25). With zero points after four rounds, Galatasaray is virtually eliminated from the competition while VfB is still in contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12.
Galatasaray was sidelined by the absence of Egyptian Abdalla Ahmed – probably their best player – and the guests from Germany could catch a flying start dominating the scene right from the go in the first as well as in the second set (25-19, 25-22). Galatasaray regrouped to win the third set (25-23) but once more their guests imposed their rule in the fourth (25-20) to claim their second victory in the competition and remain in contention for a spot in the Playoffs with another two rounds to go before completion of the prelims.
