PARIS Volley cruises to straight home victory over BUDVA
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men
Paris, France, November 7, 2013. PARIS Volley claimed on Thursday their second victory in prelim Pool C of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men as they stopped the winning streak of Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA rushing to a straight-set home win (27-25, 25-16, and 25-19). With this result there are three teams – PARIS, BUDVA and Poland’s Asseco Resovia RZESZOW – all with two victories so far in the group and the race for a spot in the Playoffs 12 is still very open waiting for the actions to re-start in early December.
The first set was very close with Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA anchored by strong spiking and serving contributed by Marko Bojic while PARIS Volley setter Guillermo Hernan mostly opted for Mory Sidibé and Marko Ivovic. PARIS claimed a set ball as Sidibé finished a very long and exciting rally and he scored also the next point to seal the final 27-25 for the home side.
Dennis Van der Veen (pictured, #7) set the pace for PARIS Volley in the second set where the hosts showed good blocking, spiking and serving to make it 8:2 at the first technical time-out. After that, PARIS could keep control of the operations and they eventually cashed the second set with a speedy 25-16 that clearly shows their supremacy in the game.
PARIS Volley showed that same momentum also in the early phases of the third set while BUDVA could not find a way to stop the attacks killed by Ivovic and his teammates. Only Aleksandar Minic was able to register a few consecutive points to keep the score a little tighter. However, with their excellent libero Markus Steuerwald and setter Hernan on fire, PARIS cruised to the final 25-19 to claim their second victory in Pool C.
“I have to congratulate the team of PARIS for they played really well tonight” said BUDVA head coach Sinisa Reljic. “The first set decided who was going to win this game for it was very tight. Even though we were leading there by two points, we eventually ended up losing the set. We shall have performed better and showed a different attitude. Of course we can’t be happy with this defeat but we still have our good chances to make the Playoffs especially as we have two home matches in December. I hope we will be playing much better than we did tonight and also get our revenge as we host PARIS Volley.”
“Tonight we played really strong but BUDVA on the other hand did not show their real potential” said PARIS Volley team captain Dennis Van der Veen. “We made a few mistakes but our opposite Mory Sidibé helped us find some more options in attack.”
