Swiss Dragons fail to cause another home sensation
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Lugano, Switzerland, November 6, 2013. Even though they were not able to repeat the sensation they had caused two weeks ago as they beat Arkas IZMIR, the home heroes of Energy Investments LUGANO showed a very solid performance in their home match with Germany’s champions BERLIN Recycling Volleys. The guests eventually scored their second victory in Pool D (22-25, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-18) to keep second place in the standing topped by Italy’s Diatec TRENTINO.
With their experience at this level, the guests from Germany made the difference especially in the crucial moments of the match. With the only exception of the first set where LUGANO controlled the game, BERLIN looked in full swing. The guys mentored by Australian head coach Mark Lebedew showed their quality and were able to storm back even in the third set where they trailed 13:19 and 19:22 before leveling at 22 all and scoring another three in a row to seal the final 25-22. The fourth and eventually last set was supposed to turn into the last chance for the “Dragons” – as the home players are nicknamed – to fight their way back but once more BERLIN imposed their supremacy to take three points from this game and cement their second place in the Pool.
