Knack and Zaksa battle for leadership in Pool G
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men
Roeselare, Belgium, November 4, 2013. On Tuesday Knack ROESELARE and Poland’s Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE will be crossing their ways at the Schiervelde sports hall and play there for the leadership in Pool G as they both have two victories so far in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men. Last year Zaksa qualified for the Final Four after edging Belgium’s Noliko MAASEIK in the Playoffs 12 and this season they would like to repeat that feat once more.
Zaksa is the stronger side at least on paper but the home heroes around head coach Emile Rousseaux are in full swing after they beat Germany’s VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN and Turkey’s rookie Galatasaray ISTANBUL in the previous rounds. The away victory claimed last week by Knack in Istanbul certainly woke up many Volleyball experts and Zaksa is not going to underestimate their next opponent. If Knack shows the same determination and quality of the previous matches and with the support of the home crowd behind their back, ROESELARE could possibly claim a third consecutive victory and cement their leadership in the group.
As they competed in their respective national leagues this weekend, Knack and Zaksa played five sets. Knack eventually edged Euphony ASSE-LENNIK after leading 2:0 and resisting to a furious comeback by their opponents. Zaksa, on the other hand, lost at the tie-break the “clasico”, the derby with JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, another team competing in this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.
“On Sunday we got a break to recover from the five sets we played with Euphony. I was hoping for a short game to save energy but it turned out differently” says Knack head coach Emile Rousseaux. “My young players needed some rest and starting from today we will get ready for the game with Zaksa. I think they are the strongest team in our Pool but I am not going to put too much pressure on the shoulders of my players” he concludes.
