TOURS VB to play Challenge Cup winners PIACENZA in second prelim round
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Tours, France, October 28, 2013. After edging Bulgaria’s champions Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA last week, TOURS VB will be hosting on Wednesday Italy’s Copra Elior PIACENZA at Robert Grenon sports hall for the second round of action in Pool A of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men.
Though they could welcome back Nuno Pinheiro and David Konecny, TOURS VB could not stop the run of BEAUVAIS Oise in the fourth round of the national league as the side from the outskirts of Paris was anchored by their Belgian opposite Bram Van den Dries with 26 points. Van den Dries currently tops the charts of the best scorers in the national league with 122 points in 5 matches. This was already the second defeat for TOURS VB this year while last year they had suffered only four setbacks during the entire season.

Though their start in the national league was not that good, last Thursday TOURS VB could down DUPNITSA in straight sets with David Konecny on fire as he registered 17 points all alone for the French team. This means that the group is well ready to take on the winners of last year’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.
PIACENZA also caught a slow start of their campaign in the Italian Serie A1 losing to Altotevere CITTA’ DI CASTELLO but they promptly responded by winning their home match with Slovenia’s ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (3:1). Alessandro Fei and Hristo Zlatanov, two players with a long international career and in their mid- or late 30s, were once more those who set the pace for PIACENZA.

The game coming up on Wednesday is very important for both teams if they want to keep good chances to make the Playoffs of Europe’s elite club competition.
